A second and fourth quarter surge by the Bellaire boys lacrosse team propelled them to a 12-6 victory over St. Thomas Tuesday night at the Eagles’ Stadium.
The Eagles’ Sam Payne scored the game’s first goal in the opening quarter. From this point on, it was all Bellaire. The Cardinals went on a 5-0 run in the first half with Jeff Rassenfoss leading the way scoring two goals.
Chris Ard, James O’Neil, and Kevin Sego also contributed to the Bellaire’s 5-1 lead going into halftime.
It did not take long for Rassenfoss to make it happen again as he scored within the first three minutes of the third quarter. But the third quarter was owned by St. Thomas.
A fire was ignited and the Eagles’ Payne went on a scoring frenzy. He scored three back-to-back goals closing the Cardinal lead to two as the third quarter came to a close. With that momentum, the fourth quarter was destined to be exciting.
Apparently, this was all that was needed to get the Cardinals pumped up for the fourth. Ben Gatliff, Justin Javier, O’Neil, Ard, Sego (twice) all made their way past the St. Thomas goalie for scores.
For St. Thomas, Charlie Burt and Russ McLauchan scored in the fourth quarter.
