Memorial faced St. Johns Tuedsday night on their home field. St. Johns, the 2006 girls lacrosse state champion, pushed past Memorial for the win. These two rival teams met again for an intense lacrosse game. However, the state champion Mavericks left the field victorious.11-9.
“Both teams are similar and have a lot of speed and talent,” St. John's coach Angie Kensinger said. “We're always nervous to play Memorial. They are a really good team.”
The first half belonged to the Mavericks, as they led 7- 4 at halftime. Shortly after the second half began, the Mustangs started to heat things up, as they scored three quick goals to tie the game 7 – 7.
The Mustangs would then take the lead, gaining two more points, but St. Johns wasn't ready to let their guard down just yet. They came back to tie the game and add another two scores to secure the victory midway through the second half.
St. John's defense held the remainder of the game leaving Memorial behind at the finish. Maverrick goalie, Aly Lecznar put the saves in place when it counted with a game total of 7. Both teams played an outstanding match.
