Aledo, Texas – The Aledo Bearcats hungrily rushed out on the brand new Field Turf of Bearcat Stadium and quickly penetrated the Weatherford Kangaroo’s defense to put up the first points on the scoreboard only 9:06 minutes into the first quarter. 7-0.

The Roos failed to answer back and allowed Aledo’s dominating offense, under the leadership of junior quarterback, Cole Loftin to move the ball once again down the field to score. With a failed extra kick, the score was 13-0 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The Bearcats were making history in their new stadium and making a statement in front of a standing room only crowd that gathered for the inaugural opener.

Loftin (5-11, 175) was a force to be dealt with as he gained an impressive 253 yards on 17 carries, including a 91-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

A Bearcat interception by Jack Bryant on the Aledo nine-yard line prevented the Roos from scoring only seconds before.

Commenting on his rushing yards, Loftin stated matter-of-factly that the quarterback has to step-up and ensure the win. He gave tremendous credit to his “great” offensive line.

A two-sport athlete, Loftin was poised and calm not only for the post-game interviews, but also throughout the game. On the field, he embodied his own description of what a quarterback should bring to the team.

“Make the big plays and get the ball to my teammates so they can make the big plays,” Loftin said. A quarterback must bring leadership and a sense of calm and command to the team.”

Although Loftin felt there were some obvious mistakes and areas for improvement, he said he was relieved to get this game behind him after all the hype for this inaugural game.

Looking down the road, Loftin sees their District 8-4A opener against Stephenville on September 29 as one of the biggest games of the year. His strategy is very simple.

“Correct the mistakes from this week, put points on the board, and have another big ‘W’ to put behind them.”
