The Cypress Creek (17-4-3) girls soccer team came into Tuesday night’s regional quarterfinals match up against Cinco Ranch (24-2-1) knowing it would be a challenging game. That seemed to be the case as Cy Creek, led by coach Kathy Fling, earned a dominating 3-0 victory over Cinco Ranch at Rhodes Stadium.
This entire postseason, Cinco Ranch had not given up a single goal and outscored its opponents 13-0. That fact alone may have been the motivational factor for the Creek Lady Cougars.
From start to finish, Cy Creek was all over the field battling for position and ball control. The Creek Cougars’ tenacious game play started in the first half when midfielder Jackie Prapta scored the team’s first goal.
The second goal came from a hard-sliced corner kick by junior Audrey LaLanne. LaLanne’s kick just caught the inside of the right side of the goal area.
Cinco Ranch took several shots at the goal during the game, but came up short. Cy Creek goalkeeper Troi Jorgensen made numerous saves to keep Cinco Ranch off of the scoreboard.
Jorgensen’s defense, along with the hustle-style play of Cy Creek, was clearly the overall determinant. Even so, Cy Creek’s Liz Ferrari sealed the deal with a second-half goal with 15:23 remaining in the game.
Cy Creek will advance to the regional semifinals round and play a tough Deer Park team on Friday. Time and location was not available at press time.
