A fifth inning surge by the Mayde Creek softball team propelled them over Katy Taylor Thursday night with a 5-0 victory. The Lady Rams recorded three of their five runs in the fifth.

On the mound it was the battle of Callie’s. Mayde Creek’s Callie Darlin (7-3) versus Taylor’s Callie Lazerine. Darlin pitched majority of the game and earned the win.

Mayde Creek held a solid two-run lead through five tough innings. But the Rams’ Leslie Sheffy opened the game up in the fifth when blasted a double knocking in two runs. The next up to bat, Jessie Ortiz, followed with another double.

A wild pitch brought home Sheffy and the lead was extended to five. But the Lady Mustangs made a tough effort in the sixth.

In the top of the sixth, Taylor managed to load up the bases after Elizabeth Kocon and Kellie Kooser had back-to-back base hits. The Mustangs were not able to convert any runs.

Mayde Creek’s leading batters were Ortiz, who was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles and Sheffy (1-for-3, 2 RBIs).
