Thursday afternoon proved to be a day of great hitting and outstanding pitching by the Katy Tigers as they faced the Alief Taylor Lions. The Tigers came into the game with a 7-0 record and sitting in first place in district, while the Lions have a 2-5 record with a 6th place district ranking.
Katy's came out connecting right out of the gates with a huge 6 run 1st inning. As the second inning came about, things cooled down a bit for Katy scoring only one run off of a deep sac fly. With the commanding lead and superb pitching by Nick Pepitone, the Tigers didn't look back.
With a huge lead, Katy continued to give Alief Taylor's pitcher, Stephen Decker, trouble as he gave up another 2 runs in the 3rd including a RBI triple by Carter Jurica. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Lions, got a man on base for the first time of the game off of a error by the Tigers.
The Alief Taylor defense stepped up in the 4th as they used great fielding to get out of a bases loaded situation with only 1 run scored. In the bottom of the inning, Katy gave Pepitone a deserving rest after pitching 3 innings and giving out no hits.
With the 5th inning starting, Katy seemed to have the game in the bag because of the run rule. Just to make sure, the Tigers added four more runs to the board.
The Lions needed a big inning to get back in the game. Benny Cardozo got the first hit of the game but Alief 's bats would not heat up today, to provide the needed run support.
Pepitone left the game with a no hitter through three innings. Bret Atwood went 3-4 and 2 RBI's, Andrew Dresden went a perfect 4-4, and Cardozo gave Alief Taylor their only hit with a single.
The Tigers returned home with a huge win. 14-0.
