SATURDAY

Saturday’s action at the Texas Relays was cold and wet, but yet brave. While many teams’ athletes opted to withdraw from the running and field events due to weather conditions, some lined up at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin to compete and try to bring home a medal.

One Greater Houston team that decided to make the best of the situation was the boys of Houston Lamar. The Redskins team brought home medals in three different relays (4x100, sprint medley, and distance medley).

In the 4x100-meter relay, their time was 42.58 that was good for gold. In the sprint (3:33.07) and distance (10:55.75) medley, Lamar earned a bronze in both.

Greater Houston also faired well in the boys pole vault division. Maston Wallace of Clear Brook took the gold with a jump of 16-6 in Division II. St Johns’ Blaine Finley, competing in Division I, was a top (gold) finisher with a jump of 15 feet.

Other Houston-area top medallists were Cy Falls’ sprint medley relay team (first), Baytown Sterling’s 4x400 relay team (second), Episcopal’s David Nwabuisi (shot put-second) and Bryan Miller (100M-third), and Dayton’s PJ McGowen (high jump-third)

For the girls, Clear Brook and Lamar finished well with top finishers. Clear Brook’s 4x100 relay team finished first with a time of 48.74, and 100M runner Erica Alexander was second place.

Lamar’s girls sprint (4:02.81) and distance (12:26.13) medley relay teams finished first and second respectively.

Other top finishers were as follows:
Brittani Carter-FB Marshall (high jump-gold)
Danielle Upshaw-Oak Ridge (shot put-silver)
Episcopal
4x800 relay (silver)
Westbury sprint medley (bronze)
Alex Gibbs-Kinkaid (100 hurdles-bronze)
A’ Lexus Brannon-Beaumont Ozen (long jump-bronze)
