The Texas Relays brings out the best of the best. With each athlete participating having to meet a qualifying time, throw, or jump to even be invited. The competition is fierce and the Relays foreshadow the State Track meet taking place May 11th-12th.

For many teams the road to State starts next week. Districts will began early next week and the athletes will begin to be narrowed down to the best in that area. After districts, regionals will take place and this will take the top competitors to State at the Mike A. Myers Stadium at the University of Texas.

So for some of the athletes they will be going full circle from the Texas Relays to the State Track & Field Championships. The athletes use the Texas Relays to scout out their toughest competition and to see what they need to improve on in these next couple of weeks.

Coach Danny Jones from Memorial High School said,” We use the Relays to prepare for districts, they are a tune up for the district meet. The competition is always tough at this meet, you have athletes from all over Texas and some from out of the state so just to get here is an honor.”

Coach Todd Ringo from Cy- Falls High School said, “To prepare for the Relays we rest more because we have to be ready for districts the following week. The competition is great, if you don’t run your best time then something is wrong because everybody runs a good time at the Texas Relays.”

The Texas Relays mentally prepares the athletes and the coaches for the rest of the track & field season. The compilation of so many great athletes gives the athletes a taste of what they have to look forward to and the spectators a meet that will not compare to any other.
