DEER PARK, TEXAS The Region III Semi-Finals and Finals for the 2007 Boys and Girls Soccer Championship were held this weekend at the Clyde Abshier Stadium in Deer Park.  

With students out for the Easter holiday the stadium had fans arriving in intervals for the four matches held under sunny skies. There was plenty of action and the best of the best arrived to demonstrate their agility, footwork, and preparation for this event.  

Of course each team came with the dream of advancing to Saturday’s finals and a ticket to state next week. Although weather forecasters predicted bad weather conditions, no one could have anticipated what it would take to make that dream come true.

  April 6, 2007 12:30 p.m. The undefeated lady Deer soccer team faced the Cypress Creek Cougars in the first match of the day.

 Although the Cougars played aggressively and never relented, Deer Park dominated both offensively and defensively.  Scoring twice in the first half, the Deer went into the half with the momentum.

 Cypress Creek with a record of 17-4-3 had defeated the Cinco Ranch girls to earn a spot on the field and played well under the leadership of Coach Kathy Fling.  

It was forward Nation Jordan who put the Deer on the board first after Cougar goalkeeper Troi Jorgensen had deflected a shot by Jordan Mobley. With a quick defensive move, Jordan, put the ball past Jorgensen on the rebound.1-0.

 Later in the first half, Mobley took the ball in for another goal to put the Deer up by two. 

The second half would be a defensive battle as the Deer maintained their lead to the end but added no other points to the score. The Deer remain undefeated and will take on the winners of the upcoming match between Katy Taylor and Kingwood on Saturday.

Great job,girls and great competition on the part of both teams.
