DEER PARK, TEXAS The Region III Semi-Finals and Finals for the 2007 Boys and Girls Soccer Championship were held this weekend at the Clyde Abshier Stadium in Deer Park.

With students out for the Easter holiday the stadium had fans arriving in intervals for the four matches held under sunny skies. There was plenty of action and the best of the best arrived to demonstrate their agility, footwork, and preparation for this event.

Of course each team came with the dream of advancing to Saturday’s finals and a ticket to state next week. Although weather forecasters predicted bad weather conditions, no one could have anticipated what it would take to make that dream come true.

LANGHAM CREEK vs. KINGWOOD 7:30 p.m.

In what proved to be a fierce match-up of two powerhouse boy soccer teams Friday night, Kingwood finally penetrated the Lobo’s defense in overtime to score the only point of the night.1-0.

After a hard fought 80 minutes of play propelled these two teams into an overtime situation, even the first period of overtime appeared it would end in a deadlock.

However it was Mustang Sophomore Blake Shannon who had the head shot at just the right moment and scored. Elliot Lye’s corner kick was placed perfectly for Shannon to take the shot.

Langham Creek came into this match undefeated and played relentlessly. This was a match-up of speed, agility, expert footwork, and stamina as neither team faltered in regulation play. Even then it appeared this game might not be decided in the first overtime period.

The Kingwood Mustangs will battle Saturday against Morton Ranch to determine who travels to Round Rock and competes for the state championship.

Congratulations to all players for the amazing effort and skill demonstrated in this match-up for tonight’s win.
