The Spring Branch ISD district golf tournament was held at Cypresswood Gold Course on Tuesday where Memorial, Stratford, Eisenhower, Nimitz, and Spring Woods all made a presence in the competition. The competition included both girls and boys’ teams and medallists (individuals who entered solo because there was not enough to make a full team).
The Mustang A-team took first place in they boys division with a combined score of 593 strokes. A-team member Cory Whitsett won the individual first place award shooting a 69 on both rounds.
“It’s a good feeling to come out here and win this because I haven’t been at the top of my game lately,” said Whitsett.
Memorial’s Matt Sinclair earned third place individually with a 150-combined score for the two rounds.
The Stratford A-team earned second place overall with a team total of 623 strokes. Spartans’ Ryan Hazelden earned second place individually with a two round total of 142 strokes.
Memorial’s B-team earned third overall with a combined score of 651 strokes. Lawrence Chang led the way for the B-team with a total score of 156.
Nimitz’s Sean Chagnard lead the medallists competition with 162 strokes.
The Lady Mustangs also earned first place as a team with a combined score of 355. Liz Wendt earned first place individually shooting an 81 for the round as teammate Amy Oxley earned second place shooting a 88. The Lady Spartans, led by Jenifer Hardy who shot an 89, took second place overall with a combined score of 397. Hardy also earned third place in the individual standings.
In a close third was the Memorial B-team who shot only two strokes over the Spartans at 399.
