The preliminary District 19-5A running events at the Spring Branch Memorial track Wednesday afternoon has already set the tone for some hot racing action to take place Friday night.
With the Memorial girls and the Nimitz boys holding the top spots, look for Spring Branch and Aldine’s finest at the finish line as they represent their respective schools.
The Top 8 times were chosen to advance to the finals competition. For the girls, the 100, 200, and 400-meters were run in the prelims.
Eisenhower’s Joslyn Cooper posted the fastest 100-meter time with 12.32. Ashley Miller of MacArthur ran a 25.84 in the 200-meters and Nimitz sprinter Teryni Buckner was the rabbit with a time of 58.91 in the 400-meter run.
In the boys division, Brandon Myers of Eisenhower had the top time in the 100-meters with 10.72. The Eisenhower boys team also had the best times in the 110 hurdles (Craig Loston, 15.48) and the 200-meter run (Kenneth Johnson, 22.39).
Nimitz hurdler Jermery Johnson led with a 40.49 in the 300 hurdles and his teammate, Lawrence Gaines, posted a 50.90 in the 400 meters.
