Attention: Tennis fans. Follow me through the cool doors of Smoothie King and out onto Memorial Park's back tennis courts. You'll find that more than readily accessible strawberry-banana goodness excites the players and fans gathered around this afternoon's matches. We've just stumbled upon the 19-5A District finals, and the playing is hot.

Matches began today around 2:30 pm. with singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Spread thickly across the eight courts were the Memorial and Stratford athletes, whose red and green out-numbered the other teams in the district finals.

But neither school rivalry nor affiliation seemed to matter much to the players on the court this afternoon. For them, their only opponent waited across the net, even if they belonged to the same team. A pair of boys who actually play together in doubles undertook one such team member-on-team member match.

The first matches began to draw to a close almost two hours later, as others gripped their rackets tight, still fighting for a chance at Regionals.
