Katy, TX – Many coaches often say that one of the primary reasons for a
team's success is competitiveness and camaraderie. Houston Memorial's
Top 2 boys tennis players have exemplified these characteristics on a
regular basis.
Sophomores Adam Putterman and Jonathan Chang are paired together this
fall in doubles matches. They each participate in singles competitions,
but for now they are working to be an unstoppable team in a tough
District 19-5A.
"He (Putterman) is our No. 1 player and Chang is No. 2," Coach Budd
Booth said. "When they play each other it is a never-ending battle.
Last year they had to face each other in district and the match lasted
nearly three hours."
Ultimately, the match ended and Putterman was victorious, but there is no bad blood and no love lost.
"These two, as well as the team, are very close," Booth said. "There is great camaraderie and competition among us."
The Mustang tennis team had an undefeated record and earned the
district title last season. Booth said this achievement has catapulted
the team for the 2006-2007 season.
"Winning the title last year gave us a lot of confidence," Booth said. "This year they (the team) should do just fine."
The Mustang boys and girls tennis team are competing in the Taylor Invitational August 25 and 26.
