Under crystal blue skies the Lady Eagles of Second Baptist met the Lady Eagles of Faith West in a pitcher’s duel Thursday night at the Second Baptist High School softball field.
Senior Paige Bauer pitching for Faith West, a Tapps 4-A team, took the mound against SBS freshman Kendall Stiefel.
Although the match-up was a non-district game for these teams, the Eagles played a tight defense with the game scoreless until the sixth inning.
SBS freshman, Kendall Stiefel, the winning pitcher, was also the first to put a run on the board for the Eagles followed by shortstop Lexy Bennett. Bennett’s hard hit line drive allowed her to advance to second on a double.
With Elizabeth Sekaly at bat, Bennett took advantage of a bobbled ball and an overthrow to put up another run for the SBS Eagles, taking the lead 2-0. Although Sekaly had a big hit to centerfield for a double and a steal to third, Faith West pitcher Paige Bauer and Co. did not allow any further runs for the inning.
With pressure on the Faith West Eagles in the top of the 7th, Stiefel battled for the win. With assistance from the infield and battling to closeout the game, Stiefel finished the night improving her record 24-2.
The SBS Eagles meet tonight against Tapps 4-5A Fort Bend Baptist Eagles who presently hold the first place position in the district.
The Faith West Eagles face off next against Houston Christian Tuesday, April 24.
