Kinkaid girls' defense holds off Episcopal

In a tough defensive softball game that remained scoreless through six innings, Kinkaid’s late-game push was the deciding factor in a 1-0 victory over SPC rival Episcopal.

Pitchers Sydney Friday (Kinkaid) and Kellie Nolen (Episcopal) faced off on the mound. Friday earned the win and recorded 12 strikeouts, one walk, and a hit.

The scoreboard was silent until the top of the sixth inning when Falcon batter Ana Sofio Mariotto was at the plate. Mariotto reached first base on an error. Kinkaid’s next up at bat was Friday, who also reached base on an error.

Mariotto advanced to third. Falcon pinch runner Katie Williamson came into the game for Friday and stole second and now Kinkaid had runners on second and third base.

Then, Jordan Lippman singled bringing Mariotto home. That ended up being the game-winning run.

Episcopal had two last chances to even the score, but fell short.

Leading the way for Kinkaid was Lippman who was 3-for-3 at the plate and had an RBI. Jeanie Arnold and Katie Skarke both had one hit apiece.

For Episcopal, Emily Brlansky and Caitlyn Cain each had hits.
