The Cinco Ranch Cougars and the Mayde Creek Rams are vying for the third and fourth playoff spots with only a few games left in the season. These two teams squared off Friday night in a game that could have heavy playoff implications in the near future. Mayde Creek’s Mo Wiley started on the mound for the Rams and came out ready to play. He pitched the entire game and gave up zero runs on just few hits. “This was his gutsiest performance of the year,” said Rams’ coach Lyn Leonard. “He really challenged the hitters tonight and placed the ball very well.” Although Wiley pitched a shut out, the game was closer than one might expect. The first run of the game came in the top of the third inning for the Rams on a bases loaded walk. There were no more runs scored until the seventh inning when Trey Rackel hit a single up the middle of the diamond and drove home Zach Toth who reached base on a single. The two runs would be enough for the Rams as Cinco had no runs on one hit to secure a 2-0 victory for the Rams. The last time these two teams met it was another two run game with the Cougars pulling off an 8-6 victory. “We felt this was a must win game for us tonight and I’m really proud of these guys the way they came out and played,” explained Leonard. The Cougars will have one of their biggest challenges ahead of them as they face the first place Katy Tigers on Saturday and the Rams will host Elsik on Monday.
