The Stratford Spartans have their biggest game of the season coming up on Tuesday as the face the Memorial Mustangs in a game with heavy playoff implications. However, on Saturday afternoon they hosted Brazoswood in an exhibition match that had no impact on the upcoming playoffs whatsoever.

It looked good in the beginning for the Spartans at they put up three runs in the first inning with scores by John Sorsby, A.J. Dagget, and Jake Miller. These were the only runs scored by Stratford as pitcher Ben Coram came in and pitched relief threw lights out the rest of the game.

“Their pitcher kept us off balance today,” explained Stratford’s coach Tony Mardirosian.

Scoring one run in the first, the Bucs were down 3-1. That is until the third inning when the Bucs tied the game as they capitalized on several Stratford errors. The game remained tied through the next two innings with each team struggling at the plate.

The Bucs scored the go ahead run in the top of the sixth inning on a pass ball by the Spartans. Trailing 4-3 heading into their final at bat, the Spartans needed some offense to at least send the game into extra innings. Stratford came close but stranded the tying run at third as the Bucs made some stellar plays in the field.

Although the Spartnas lost, it was still a good warm-up for their big game on Tuesday.

“Our main focus is still Memorial,” said Mardirosian. “We feel confident that we have the personnel to beat those guys.”

Stratford and Memorial kick off Tuesday night 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium.

Ben Coram entered the game to pitch for Brazoswood in the bottom of the second inning. Thanks for covering the game, this is a neat showcase for Houston baseball.
