The Eagles covered their hearts with their caps along with other Eagles during the National Anthem Monday night, exciting “Hotel California” fans everywhere...kind of. The Second Baptist Eagles vs. St. Thomas Eagles baseball game, more or less dubbed a “practice game”, began on the St. Thomas fields at 6:00 pm. The main objective: to get the teams ready for the playoffs beginning just next week.

The game went rather slowly in the first couple innings, but really picked up energy in the fourth. Second baptist led the inning two to zero, when St. Thomas decided to “rack up some points” as one sunflower-seed-spitting Eagle aptly put it. St. Thomas came back in the fourth to score eight more runs, leaving a bright 8 to 2 stamp to shine on the scoreboard, putting and leaving St. Thomas in the lead.

Second Baptist didn't give up, and fought back in the sixth inning to try an even the score.

One of the four pitchers from Second Baptist was a certain Ryan Wood, who not only pitched well, but made multiple runs, and hit a homer! “That's the first time he's done that” one of his coaches was heard commenting on the field, “and he graduates in a couple weeks.” What a way to close a high school career!

The pitchers from St. Thomas were George Circe, Justin McLeod, Matt Stuart, and Brian Borski.

“Borski did well,” St. Thomas' Coach Wilgarowski reflected, “we're going to need his pitching for the playoffs!”

Playoffs seemed to be on everyone's mind Monday night. McLeod, pitcher for the St. Thomas Eagles, seemed pleased with the practice the teams were getting. He thought the game was helpful because of “the pitchers and everybody else getting a lot of work in” in preparation for their game against John Paul II next Friday.

Another team mate to be highlighted is St. Thomas' first baseman, Colin Bear, who played determinately and effectively when at bat.

The final score was 10 to 6, St. Thomas. Though birds of a feather may not always flock together, they sure can help each other out with practice for the big games swiftly approaching!
