Taylor secures second place against Cinco Ranch

The Cinco Ranch Cougars took on the Katy Taylor Mustangs at home Tuesday night. The Mustangs needed this win to secure a second place spot in the District. They played a solid game extended their district record to 10-3 and ended the game with a final score of 4-0.

 

The action started in the second inning. After a slow first inning the Mustangs were able to get around the bases and after a ball got lose from the catcher the runner on third base was able to get the first run on the board.

Taylor held Cinco Ranch in the bottom with great pitching from Stephen Nikonchik. The second inning finished with Taylor leading 1-0.

 

In the third inning Taylor continued to connect with the ball. After a ball was hit to the center field fence the runner on second base came home to give Taylor their second run. Cinco Ranch continued to struggle; the game entered the fourth with a score of 2-0.

 

After Taylor scored another run in the fourth, both teams fielding stepped up. The fifth and sixth innings were filled with great plays and excellent fielding to start the seventh inning with the Cougars only down by three.

 

Cinco Ranch’s pitcher, Dakota Laufenberg had trouble finding the strike zone so the coach switched him with Chad Socchitng. Socchitng had a little bit better luck but with the bases loaded he could not stop Taylor when a ball was hit to the outfield bringing another Mustang in. Taylor closed the bottom with a quick three outs and finished the game with a final score of 4-0.

 

For the Cougars, Philip Peroyea had one hit. The Mustangs pitcher, Nikonchik had 11 strikeouts, Scott Dougherty had a single and 1 run, Taylor Featherson had 2 hits and 1 RBI. Taylor’s David Iiams had 1 run, Seth Lynn had 2 singles and 2 runs, and Logan Moro had 2 base hits and 1 RBI.
