The sun was shining over the brand new Strake Jesuit Aquatic Center on Thursday afternoon. This was the scene for the 3rd Annual Ben Garcia Memorial Water Polo Tournament. The 12 teams contending nicknamed, the Dirty Dozen, made a splash beginning at 3 pm.
St. Agnes vs. Galveston Ball, and Cy Creek vs. Cy Falls girls started off the evening. Fans watched adamantly as their athletes displayed great endurance in this event consisting of more than just treading water for roughly 45 minutes. The real battle occurs beneath the surface where only the players themselves are witness to the true intensity of the sport.
In game #7 St. Agnes beat Galveston Ball in a close game ending 9-7. Top scorers include Katie Kegg of St. Agnes with 3 and Anna Hyatt of Galveston Ball with 4 points.
In game #8 Cy Creek dominated Cy Falls with their 15-2 victory. Abigail Edwards of Cy Creek held her teams top score at the half with 4 points. Megan Sikkema and Stephanie Ferguson captured Cy Falls' only points.
In game #9 Strake Jesuit played against Galveston Ball taking the 13-7 win. Jesuit's Mark Strickland was lead scorer with 5 points followed by Austin Kirwin of Ball with 3 points.
In game #10 Cy Falls faced the State Champions, Cy Creek. Final Score was 21-4. Notable play by Franco Gallastegui of Cy Falls and Stephen Conrad of Cy Creek.
In game #11 Galveston Ball retrieved a victory over Pearland with a final score of 15-9. Anna Hyatt once again lead her team with 6 points for Ball. Alli Besser of Pearland held an impressive 6 points as well.
In game # 12 The Lamar Lady Mustangs beat Cy Falls Golden Eagles
