Houston Christian High School was the host of the 2007 TAPPS Regional track meet Friday afternoon. With the Top 4 finishes heading to the state meet in Waco next weekend, the competition was anything less top-notch.
The TAPPS regional champions were Concordia Lutheran (girls-112 points) and Houston Christian (boys-137 points). The girls’ runner up was Awty with 108 points and boys was San Antonio St. Anthony with 107.50.
The Lady Crusaders took first in the 4x200 relay and second in the 4x400 relay, finishing behind last year’s state champions Awty. Houston Christian finished first in both the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays.
The day’s standout runners were (top gold medallists): For the girls, Concordia Lutheran’s Lauren Rover, Westbury Christian’s Ijeoma Waturoacha, and Awty’s Sophie Peeters.
Rover earned first place in both the 100 hurdle (17.36) and 300-meter hurdles (47.45). She also took the gold in the high jump (5-0) and was also the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay that took second.
Waturoacha brought home three gold medals. She won the 100M (13.20), 200M (27.08), and was the anchor leg on the 4x100 relay (51.44). Peeters excelled and won the 400M (59.23), the 800M (2:16.30), and ran the first leg on the 4x400 relay (4:07.52).
For the boys, Houston Christian’s London Lomax and Steve Geloneck were the day’s golden boys. Lomax won the 110 hurdles (15.46), ran third leg on the 4x100 relay (43.33), and anchored the 4x200 relay (1:32.63).
Geloneck took first in the 100M (11.39), ran second leg on the 4x200 relay, and anchored the 4x100 relay.
