The Spring Woods Tigers hosted the Memorial Mustangs on Friday to determine the District Champions. A one run game with a final score of 1-0 gave the Mustangs the district title.
After a stalemate in the first ,the second inning started with a bang. Memorial’s Cliff Vaughn stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball over the center field fence. One homerun proved to be the solid hit Memorial needed to win the game and secure the first place position for the district.
The following innings were all about power and poise as Memorial’s pitcher, Gregg Laswell and Spring Woods pitcher, Steven Hooker threw strikes to hold runners on all bases. Both teams put runners on the bags. However,with solid defense and great pitching neither team could drive in any runs.
Memorial left victorious and secured the first place spot for postseason play.1-0.
Memorial and Spring Woods will continue next week in the bi-district playoffs. Stay tuned to AC for all updates and action on the field.
