The Lamar Redskins and the Spring Woods Tigers played Saturday at Butler Stadium in the Region III District 5A Playoffs. Lamar needed this win to continue their season and play again next week. The Redskins were able to defeat the Tigers and win the game with a final score of 7-2.
Spring Woods started the top of the first and got runners on second and third base but the Redskins held them there after a double play. The bottom saw Lamar’s, Casey O’Maley hit a double and get her runner on third in. After the first run was scored the Redskins loaded the bases but Spring Woods’ pitcher, Rachel Heidemann was able to hold them with a strike out and an out at first base.
The score remained 1-0 Lamar leading until the fourth inning. The Tigers still struggled getting a runner to home but Sydney Mafrige and Colbie Devost from Lamar connected with the ball and took advantage of Spring Woods errors to help get two more runners in.
In the fifth inning Lamar got another run and started the sixth still leading with a score of 4-0. Spring Woods’ Heidemann and Sarah Smith started the inning with big hits getting themselves in position to score. After a stolen base at second Smith was able to get the Tigers first run from third base. The Redskins answered back with Darcy Wainwright getting a double and running home, followed by Holliday Hinckley batting in Devost. After a missed catch another Redskin was able to come home. Lamar extending their lead to 7-1.
Spring Woods was able to score one more run in the seventh but could not make a come back giving Lamar the win with a final score of 7-2.
Spring Woods’ Heidemann had 2 singles, Smith had a single and a run, Darcy Rincon had a single, and Katelyn Bogrand was 2-4 with a run in the seventh inning.
Lamars’ Hinckley was 3-3, O’Maley was 1-4 with 1 RBI, Devost had a double and 1 RBI, Bailey Teas had a double, and Brittani Austin was 1-4 with a single. Lamars’ pitcher Kelsey Goodwin ended the game with 7 strikeouts.
