In a TAPPS bi-district softball match up, Second Baptist was en route to moving on to the next level of playoff action Monday night against Dallas Parish Episcopal. But, an unexpected batter named ‘Mother Nature’ came up to the plate in the third inning and ended the game abruptly.

The Eagles had a tough 7-0 lead as the third inning was underway. Freshman Kendall Stiefel was on the mound and had a strong hold on the game recording several key strikeouts.

Parish Episcopal had not recorded a hit through three innings. Shortstop Lexy Bennett got things started in the bottom of the first with an RBI triple bringing home Amber Calhoun.

Elizabeth Sekaly singled and brought in Bennett. Next, Lauren O’Donnel hit a double and recorded two RBIs. Bennett and Sekaly both had big hits in the second inning as well.

The Finale

For all who attended the remainder of the TAPPS bi-district match up, Stiefel looked as though she was running her own pitching camp en route to 12-0 Eagle victory.

Stiefel threw a no-hitter and recorded 14 strikeouts. She gave up only two walks. Bennett went 2-for-2 (single, triple), four RBIs, and three runs.

O’Donnel was also 2-for-2 (single, double) and six RBIs. The Eagles had a total of five hits. Second Baptist will travel to West Texas next week to take on Midland Christian.

The game is set for Monday at 2 p.m.
