The Westside Wolves finished second in district 20-5A and which matched them in the bi-district playoffs with Nimitz who finished fourth in District 19-5A. The two teams will play a best of three series of which Westside took the upper hand in Wednesday nights 10-0 victory.

Westside wasted no time as leadoff hitter Ryan Still belted one over the fence to put the Wolves up 1-0 in the first inning. After the one shot blast it turned into a pitchers dual as neither team scored in the next two innings.

However, in the top of the fourth the bats came alive for the Wolves. Still got things started off again for the Wolves as he drew a walk to reach first and then stole second and moved over to third on a Nimitz throwing error. Travis Jackson stepped to the plate and belted a single to left to drive in Still for the second run of the game. Brian Kovar kept the hits alive with a single to center that drove in Jackson to give the Wolves a 3-0 lead. Westside would add two more runs in the inning stemming from a Freddie Villalobos double into right field. 5-0.

In the top of the fifth inning the Wolves were still hot as they racked up several more runs with base hits and Cougar errors. Dan Schmalhausen sealed the deal for the Wolves with a two RBI double to left field to give Westside a 10-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Taylor Wall earned the victory for the Wolves with a complete game shutout.

Game two of the series will be at Jersey Village Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
