Katy High School hosted Game 1 of the series between the Memorial Mustangs and the Katy Tigers softball playoffs. It didn't look good for the Mustangs, as Katy outfielder Lori Hunsucker stole two bases and made it home when the Mustangs had a wild throw to third.

Taran Tyler followed with a double for the Tigers, then stole third on the following play. Tyler scored the second run for Katy to end their well-played second inning. The Mustangs attempted to mount a comeback, but Katy's defense didn't allow Memorial to stay on base for long.

The Tigers' Matte Haack got the first run of the fourth, off a Hunsucker RBI. Kasey Henderson then batted in Samantha Rickert and Victoria Culbertson to gain the final points of the game.

Memorial's best inning proved to be the sixth, as the Mustangs held the Lady Tigers scoreless.

Top batters for Memorial were Brittany Chaney and Glynn Kaplan with singles, and Blanche Schwabenland was 3-for-3.

Denise Arnold got the job done on the mound for Katy, with three strike outs and two walks.

Final Score = 5-0

Come check out Game two tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Memorial High School.
