FIRST GAME

Cinco Ranch and MacArthur faced off at Friday night's softball game for the beginning of their three-game series at 6:00 pm. The starting pitchers for the first game were Shannon Smith for Cinco, and Alex Reynolds for MacArthur.

Highlights in the first game were when Jessica Stoelke of Cinco Ranch hit a single to bat two runners, Mary Beth Allcorn and Amanda Pennington, home. Cecily Gomez of MacArthur had some solid catches, as did Connie Guillen, who stayed on her toes throughout the game. Meaghan Brown of Cinco Ranch hit a double, also hitting two runners home, in the 6th inning to help her team stay ahead.

In the 7th inning, with a score of 9 to 0 in favor of Cinco Ranch, MacArthur refused to give up. Any slip from the Cougar defense, and the runners on the bases jumped, or rather ran, to the occasion. By staying on their toes and keeping their heads in the game, MacArthur was able to score three runs before the game ended.

Smith pitched six innings with 14 strikeouts and two walks. Reynolds also pitched the complete game, with one strikeout.

The leading hitters for Cinco were Karen Tulig, with 3 doubles and 2 RBI, Allcorn, with two hits, and Pennington with two hits. The leadin hitter for MacArthur was Gomez, with a double.

Final Score: 9 to 3, Cinco Ranch.

SECOND GAME

Around 8:00 pm the second game started, after a thirty minute intermission of music and chatting. Guillen was the first to pitch for MacArthur, but switched with Estee Adame in the top of the second. Kristie Chin pitched for Cinco Ranch, as she did for the game's entirety.

Stoelke played smart defense, as did Adame, both getting outs with their catches. Tulig of Cinco Ranch made a great play when she hit a triple in the fifth inning to bring in two runners and up the score to 10 to 0, as did Allcorn of Cinco Ranch not long after.

MacArthur's strength in the game, though it never had a chance to show on the board, was their upbeat attitudes. “Hey,” urged assistant Coach Martin throughout the game, “have fun out there.” The girls took the coaches words to heart as they came into the dugout with smiles and high-fives after most outs.

Chin kept up her determination to end the game with 8 strikeouts. Leading  hitters were Allcorn (triple and 5 RBI), and Hollie Pinchback and Tulig, both with doubles.

Final score: 13 to 0, Cinco Ranch. Final Verdict: Cinco Ranch wins the series, and is hopeful to keep up their winning streak.
