The Katy baseball team wasted no time in Bi-District play against 17-5A representative Cypress Ridge. In a best of three series, the Tigers beat the Rams back-to-back Friday night at Katy High School.

After rain postponed Thursday’s match up, a double-header was played at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Katy won Game 1 (5-0) and Game 2 (7-4).

Game 1 Katy 5-0
Tiger pitcher Aaron Daab, the winning pitcher, recorded seven strikeouts and held the Rams to one hit in a victorious mound appearance.

Shortstop Carter Jurica and catcher Tim Yager were the Top 2 batters. Katy’s Bret Atwood, Nick Pepitone, Andrew Dresden, Kyle Canales, and Yager all made their way home scoring runs.

The Rams had only one hit (J.C. Kutyba) for the game.

Game 2 Katy 7-4
Katy’s second inning surge, that included six of the seven runs scored, earned the team a 7-4 victory over Cy Ridge. The Tigers will advance to the area playoff round next week.

Early on, Cy Ridge’s Chris Fritts scored Royce Hill on an RBI single. But, the Tigers’ Michael Sauceda got things started in the second inning when he belted an RBI triple giving Katy a one-point advantage. Sauceda scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch.

Catcher Andrew Stumph extended the Tiger lead 6-1 with a two-RBI triple. Michael Fuda and Nick Pepitone both had RBIs during the run.

In the third, the Rams’ Fritts blasted a double and brought home two runs. The remainder of the game had a few hits, but no more scoring.

Katy pitcher Nick Nuncio secured the win and closer Carter Jurica earned the save. Both had three strikeouts each. Jurica and Canales kept the plate hot with their batting.

For the Rams, Travis Self and Hill were the Top 2 batters.

Katy will advance to the area playoff round and play the winner of the Stratford/Lamar game.
